The Filius variety, also known as Broccolo Fiolaro di Creazzo, is an ancient local ecotype. The plant differs from common broccoli varieties by the absence of a large, dense head. The name originates from local dialect terms for the shoots that form along the stem and are consumed along with the young leaves.
The variety is adapted for commercial use while maintaining uniformity and high shoot productivity. Harvesting takes place from November to February. Due to the exposure to low temperatures after the first frosts, the concentration of sugars and salts in the plant tissues increases, which determines its gourmet taste.
The plant is intended for culinary use as an ingredient for various dishes. The variety is suitable for organic farming.
