The BRANCO DE VIENA variety is erroneously classified as white cabbage, however, it belongs to the gongylodes variety of the species Brassica oleracea. Unlike white cabbage, this variety does not form a head, but develops a stem tuber characteristic of kohlrabi.
In international practice, this variety is known by the synonyms White Vienna and Wienerhitte. It is considered an old well-known variety that is present in the catalogs of many seed companies and is not an original development of any single firm.
