The plant reaches a height of 50–60 cm, in some cases up to 100 cm. The leaves are dark green, strap-shaped, bordered by a creamy-white or pale yellow stripe. The buds have a yellow-green tint, and flowering occurs in late spring to early summer.
The variety prefers sun or partial shade and well-drained moist soils. It is noted for its resistance to deer and rodents. It is used in landscape design in mixed borders and flower beds, and is valued, among other things, for the decorativeness of its foliage before the onset of flowering.
