The variety belongs to the group of peppers for roasting and was created to satisfy the demand of vegetable growers for high-quality produce for thermal processing. The name of the variety translates from Basque as "long", which indicates the morphological type of the fruit.

In comparative studies, the variety stood out as one of the most resistant specimens to soil pathogens, in particular to Phytophthora capsici. The variety is also included in germplasm collections as a significant specimen of local breeding.
