Variety description

10 August 2026

The name Sivrija does not refer to one specific registered variety, but denotes a type of local varieties common in Bulgaria, Serbia, and Macedonia. These peppers are often used in scientific research as parent lines or testers for the breeding of heterotic hybrids.

The fruits are described as long and conical, sometimes with the presence of characteristic light streaks or stripes on the skin, called "embroidery". In terms of pungency level, the varieties are on the border between sweet and moderately hot peppers, while being distinguished by tender flesh and good taste qualities.

Given that Sivrija represents a group of local populations (landraces), plant traits can vary noticeably depending on the specific origin of the seeds. There are no specialized disease resistance standards, but the varieties are considered well-adapted to the climatic conditions of the region of origin.
