The variety is a selection from a local North Dutch variety type. Plants have rather slow initial development and form fairly thin, moderately branched stems.

Characterized by moderate lodging resistance. It belongs to the non-shattering types, where seeds are firmly held on the pedicel after ripening, making combine harvesting possible without preliminary swathing.

Used for obtaining seeds applied as a spice and raw material for the production of essential oil. It served as a parent form in the breeding of later caraway varieties.
