The variety Tsytronovyi (the spelling Tsitrinovyi is also encountered) is intended for the production of fruits suitable for food processing. The fruits possess a distinct aroma, acidic taste, and contain a complex of biologically active substances.
The plant belongs to high-yielding and large-fruited forms of Chaenomeles. Breeding work on the variety was aimed at creating a thornless shrub convenient for cultivation in open field conditions.
