The Italica variety was developed within the framework of breeding programs in Andalusia aimed at overcoming the problem of traditional local varieties being affected by Fusarium wilt and Ascochyta blight. The plant is characterized as resistant to Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris.

The variety is intended for the production of certified seeds. Detailed morphological traits and information regarding the maturity group are absent in open publications.
