Florida and Florida Deepheart varieties belong to the escarole type, characterized by broad, flat, slightly wavy leaves. The plant forms a rosette with dark green leaves and a light creamy-white heart.

This variety is mid-season with a maturation period of approximately 85 days. Varieties of this type possess increased resistance to leaf diseases, as their flat leaf blade is less prone to retaining excess moisture.

The breeding number Florida 90 is also mentioned in agronomic literature as part of endive collections.
