The variety forms dense, "heart"-filled heads with heavy, medium-green leaves. The plant belongs to the escarole (broad-leaved endive) type and is often identified with the Gigante degli Ortolani variety type.

The maturity period is about 70 days after transplanting. Due to its pronounced frost resistance, the variety is intended for cultivation in late-autumn and winter periods as a salad plant.
