The Cardinal hybrid is a long-oval type of watermelon with a Crimson Sweet type rind pattern. The fruits are distinguished by their large size, reaching a mass of 9 to 13.5 kg, and contain small seeds.

The variety is early-maturing and possesses high seed germination energy. It was initially intended for cultivation in regions with climatic conditions of the southwestern United States and Italy.
