Variety description

10 August 2026

The Femminello variety is a classic bergamot cultivar from the Calabria region. The abbreviation V.C.R. indicates the use of certified virus-free planting material. Unlike later mutations, this variety is historically considered one of the main ones alongside the Castagnaro variety.

Plants of this variety are less vigorous compared to the Fantastico variety and are prone to alternate bearing. Fruits are usually smaller than those of other varieties and have smooth skin. Harvesting takes place in December–January. The variety is valued for the high quality of its essential oil, but may show susceptibility to diseases.
