Clethra alnifolia is a deciduous shrub. The «White Spire» («Darwish») variety is characterized as a compact plant reaching a height of about 0.6 m. Flowering occurs in the summer period, from July to August. The flowers are white, gathered in raceme inflorescences, and possess an intense sweet fragrance that attracts pollinating insects.
The plant is considered relatively low-maintenance. It prefers acidic, constantly moist, well-drained soils and possesses good winter hardiness. The variety is used in ornamental gardening for group plantings, creating hedges, and growing in containers.
