The variety is an evergreen plant with an upright stem and a dense crown with an ascending growth habit. The leaves are broad, sword-shaped, glossy, and have a dark purple-red color with a chocolate or black tint.
The mature plant reaches a height of 150–300 cm with a crown width of about 80–100 cm. The crop prefers fertile, well-drained soils and full sun exposure, which is necessary to maintain the intense foliage color.
The cold hardiness of the plant is limited to a temperature of -7...-8 °C. In northern climates, it is recommended to grow it as a container plant with relocation to an indoor space during the winter period.
