The variety 'Darwil', also known by the trade name 'Willeke', is a shrub 2–3 meters in height that can be trained as a small tree. Its leaves are narrowly elliptical or lanceolate in shape, dark green in color, and have impressed veins.

The plant flowers in May–June with white blossoms. The spherical orange-red fruits often persist on the branches throughout the winter period. The variety withstands temperatures down to -25 °C and is adapted to cultivation on various types of humic moderately moist soils in sun or partial shade.

It is used in landscape gardening for solitary and group plantings, as well as for landscaping slopes and embankments.
