The Carrasco variety is a traditional Portuguese melon originating from the Vilariça Valley. In the scientific community, the variety is considered part of the agrobiodiversity, the conservation and study of which is being conducted by the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.
Detailed information on agronomic characteristics, such as maturity group or disease resistance, is absent in open publications. The variety is officially included in the National Catalogue of Varieties of Portugal as a local genetic resource.
