The Castella variety (breeding number Nun 7949) is an early-maturing hybrid with a moderately vigorous growth type. The fruits have a netted surface with furrows, and their weight is 1.5–1.6 kg. The flesh is orange in color and is distinguished by high sweetness.
The plant possesses the property of long fruit storage. Data on disease resistance are contradictory: a number of descriptions indicate resistance to powdery mildew and Fusarium wilt races 0 and 2, however, other studies record high susceptibility of the variety to Fusarium wilt.
