The variety De Bellegarde belongs to the cantaloupe group. Fruits have a rounded, slightly flattened shape with a ribbed surface and thin, rough rind. Before ripening, the fruits are colored pale green with dark marble streaks. Fruit weight usually varies from 1 to 1.5 kg.
The plant can reach a height of about 1 m when grown with support. The melon flesh is thick, red-orange in color, and aromatic. The variety is intended for table use and fresh consumption. The plant is capable of growing in the open field, however, it is sensitive to climatic conditions, and its ripening can be hindered in a cold or rainy summer.
