The Margot variety belongs to the Charentais type. Its key feature is the presence of the Vat gene, which provides resistance to the melon aphid and prevents the transmission of several viral diseases by this pest. This variety served as the basis for introducing this gene into many other melon breeding lines.
Agronomically, the variety exhibits resistance to Fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. melonis) races 0, 1, and 2, but is susceptible to race 1.2. In scientific research, Margot is often used as a reference variety when studying mechanisms of male sterility and the genetics of resistance to pathogens.
