The variety was developed by Dr. G. H. Godfrey at the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station based on a cross of (Cucumis melo var. chito × Hale’s Best) × Smith’s Perfect. The plant belongs to the cantaloupe type.
The fruits have a greenish-yellow rind with sutures and a pronounced net on the surface. The flesh is orange in color and is distinguished by a high sugar content. The variety possesses resistance to downy mildew and is suitable for transportation.
