The Ruidera melon variety belongs to the Piel de Sapo type, known as the Christmas melon. A characteristic feature of the fruit structure is a small seed cavity.
The variety demonstrates high yield in the early harvest period. At the same time, during trials, issues with sugar accumulation in fruits and a tendency of plants to sunburn were recorded. The variety is characterized as very susceptible to powdery mildew and is used in research as a susceptible control for melon yellowing-associated virus.
