The variety De Russie is characterized by early maturity. The fruits have a short, egg-shaped or round form. As they ripen, their color changes from light green to golden yellow; when overripe, the skin may turn brown and crack, forming scales.
The flesh of the fruits is white, tender, and retains its flavor qualities even when overripe. The variety is intended for small-scale gardening and is suitable for fresh consumption in salads or as gherkins when harvested early. The plant is undemanding, does not require pruning (pinching), and tolerates open field cultivation well.
