The Tally variety, also known by the experimental designation XP 1040, is a first-generation hybrid with black spines. The fruits have a blocky shape with a length-to-diameter ratio of 3.0–3.2 and are distinguished by a high proportion of marketable medium-green produce.
The plant possesses resistance to angular leaf spot, cucumber mosaic virus, scab, and downy mildew. The variety is recommended for cultivation in northern regions and is similar in its characteristics to the Bounty variety.
