The variety is a representative of the heirloom group and is distinguished by high vine growth vigor, with lengths reaching 1.2–2.4 meters. The plant is characterized as mid-early, with the period from emergence to fruit ripening being 53–60 days.

The cylindrical fruits have a dark green color, a bumpy surface, and black spines. The standard size of the gherkin is 8–12 cm, with firm, sweet flesh that is free of bitterness. The variety is considered high-yielding provided that fruits are harvested regularly and grown on vertical supports.

The plant possesses genetic resistance to scab (Cladosporium cucumerinum) and cucumber mosaic virus. There is a related variety—Wisconsin SMR 18—which has similar resistance and usage characteristics.
