Erica × vanleuvenii 'Dark Star' is an evergreen upright shrub up to 0.5 m tall. The plant has dark brown-green foliage with a fine needle-like structure. The flowers are white with dull red buds and are gathered in raceme inflorescences; the flowering period occurs in April-May. The variety is winter-hardy and tolerates the presence of lime in the soil.

Calluna vulgaris 'Dark Star' is a low-growing evergreen shrub reaching 30 cm in height and 45 cm in width. The plant has dark green foliage and blooms with dark pink or ruby semi-double flowers. This variety is widely used in landscape design for creating borders, rock gardens, and for cultivation in containers.
