The Fuego variety is classified as an interspecific Poinsettia hybrid. In the international UPOV variety testing system, this variety is used as an example for evaluating the morphological characteristics of plants in this group.

Under TG/24/7 guidelines, the Fuego variety is used to determine the number of transitional leaves with bract coloration. The plant is characterized by the presence of many to very many units of this trait.
