Variety description

10 August 2026

The Fico Mattaro variety is not a product of directed breeding, but rather an ancient variety formed through natural selection in Italy. In various regions, including Lunigiana, this variety is also known by the names Fico Bianco, Fico Albo, Fico Albicello, and Fico Dorato.

The fruits have a delicate, sweet taste without an acrid aftertaste and are distinguished by the presence of a honey layer under the skin. Harvest ripening begins in early August. Historically, the variety gained prevalence as one of the best options for drying and fresh consumption.
