The collective name «Ananasaardbei» or «Pineberry» refers to a group of white-fruited breeding forms of garden strawberry. These plants originate from the hybridization of Fragaria chiloensis and Fragaria virginiana. Due to their belonging to a broad group, various varieties with varying characteristics may be covered under this name.
The fruits have white or cream-colored flesh with red or pink seeds and may acquire a pinkish hue when ripening in the sun. The diameter of the berries is about 20–25 mm, and the taste is characterized by pineapple notes. The height of the bush reaches 20–30 cm.
Cross-pollination is required to obtain a full harvest, so it is recommended to plant the plants next to ordinary red-fruited varieties. The crop is used as an ornamental fruit plant for home gardens, hanging baskets, and containers.
