The work was aimed at combating the disease Phytophthora fragariae, which affected plantings in the region. Seedlings were designated by serial numbers, including Auchincruive n. 25, and were selected primarily for disease resistance.
This seedling belongs to the early stages of selection that preceded the appearance of the commercially significant variety Auchincruive Climax. Detailed morphological characteristics of the plant are not available in open publications, as the object is historical breeding material.
