The plant forms bushes 30–40 cm in height with wrinkled pubescent leaves and flower stalks rising above the foliage. The species is predominantly dioecious, which requires planting several plants for pollination.
Berries are small with a mass of 2–5 g, having tender flesh ranging from pink to dark cherry in color. Fruiting occurs once per season, transportability is low, due to which berries are consumed primarily fresh.
