Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety belongs to maturity group I. In terms of maturity, it is comparable to the Sibley variety and matures 5–7 days earlier than the Bell variety. Alpha plants are approximately 7.6 cm taller than those of the Faribault variety.

Alpha is one of the first varieties resistant to race 3 and, presumably, race 14 of the soybean cyst nematode, however, the variety does not possess resistance genes to Phytophthora root rot. Under conditions of nematode infestation, the yield of the variety exceeds that of susceptible counterparts by 27%.

The seeds are characterized by a higher protein level and lower oil content compared to the Faribault variety, and also have a greater 100-seed weight.
