The variety belongs to the species Gossypium hirsutum L. In field trials conducted primarily in the Southeastern Anatolia and Mediterranean regions of Turkey, the variety demonstrated high productivity of seed cotton and stability of yield indices across years.
Edessa cotton is suitable for industrial cultivation for the purpose of producing textile fiber. In agronomic studies, this variety is also used as a control sample for studying plant adaptability to abiotic stresses and testing pest control methods.
