The variety was obtained by crossing Gossypium hirsutum L. lines with introgression lines derived from the hybridization of Gossypium hirsutum L. and Gossypium barbadense L. In comparative trials, the fiber of the Vega variety demonstrates some of the best length indices.

The variety is productive and, under certain environmental conditions, shows yields higher than standard samples. Within breeding programs, work was conducted to increase drought tolerance and resistance to Verticillium wilt, however, specific data on the resistance of the Vega variety are unavailable.
