The line was obtained by the sib-mating method from the HA 89 line. It is a maintainer line (B-line) and a carrier of cytoplasmic male sterility, which allows for the production of hybrid seeds without manual emasculation.
The plant belongs to mid-season forms. The line has good combining ability, is resistant to Verticillium wilt, but susceptible to downy mildew and rust. Its use is limited to breeding programs; it is not intended for commercial sowing.
