The plant has a compact, upright, and rounded habit with a height of 30 to 60 cm. The evergreen foliage is leathery, dark green in color, often with pronounced veins.
Large flowers are positioned on dark reddish stems and face outwards. At the beginning of flowering, they are creamy-white with a pinkish tint; as they age, they acquire a rich reddish-brown color.
Flowering begins in late winter and continues until mid-spring. The variety is characterized by winter hardiness in USDA zones 5–9, resistance to deer, and good general garden performance. All parts of the plant are toxic.
