Variety description

The variety forms an upright, rounded shrub 2.5–3.5 m high and 1.5–2 m wide. The leaves are dark green, glossy, oblong-oval in shape, turning a yellowish or purple hue in autumn.
Flowering begins in late summer, with fragrant creamy-white flowers gathered in clusters of seven. After flowering, the sepals turn bright purple and remain on the plant until October. The light brown bark exfoliates in long strips.
The plant is frost-hardy (zones 5a–6b, down to –26 °C), drought-tolerant, and resistant to diseases and pests. It prefers nutrient-rich moist substrates and is used in solitary plantings and hedges.
