In the official variety lists of Denmark and other EU countries, barley under the name "Blizzard" appeared as a variety registered in the early 2000s. Existing sources link its origin to the activities of the Limagrain group of companies, rather than the Josef Breun breeding center.
The name "Blizzard" is also found in scientific literature on breeding as a genetic source of resistance to smut diseases, however, in these works, this material is considered as a third-party breeding object, and not as a barley variety produced by Josef Breun.
