The Botnia variety is a six-row barley with genetic similarity to the Paavo variety. Its origin is based on a complex combination of the Silja and Jo 1182 lines.

The variety was intended for feed grain production in northern latitudes. In scientific literature, it appears more frequently in the context of work on genetic mapping and the optimization of anther culture methods.
