The variety is a winter two-row barley that appeared in European variety lists and research materials of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Currently, the variety is mainly used as an object for comparative phytopathological studies, in particular for assessing resistance to powdery mildew.

The technological grain qualities of Clerix include a relatively high protein and β-glucan content, as well as low diastatic power. Yield and grain grading indicators are rated as average or below average.
