Gateway is a six-row barley variety of Canadian breeding. The barley variety Olli was used in its origin. The variety was historically intended for production purposes, including feed use and grain quality assessment.
In scientific studies, samples of the variety demonstrated a high protein content, reaching 16% and more. Resistance to lodging, stem rust, and smut was evaluated as low or satisfactory. A dependency of susceptibility to net blotch on the level of mineral nutrition was also noted.
