The Leonie variety belongs to the winter barley crop. Its origin is linked to breeding in Germany through the crossing of parent forms Labea and 87585/6.
In open publications, the variety is mentioned primarily in the context of phytopathological studies, where its resistance to the pathogens of loose smut Ustilago nuda and covered smut Ustilago hordei is evaluated. The variety continues to be present in current Austrian variety lists.
