ULRICH and JOSEF BREUN
10 August 2026
The Mari variety is derived from the Bonus variety and was obtained using X-ray irradiation. The variety name reflects its key properties: earliness and stem stability. The plant belongs to the two-row barley type and exhibits photo- and thermo-intensive properties.
Due to the presence of a mutant allele, the variety matures 7–10 days earlier than mid-season analogs. Morphologically, it is characterized by a reduced stem length and a reduced number of internodes. Historically, Mari has been widely used in breeding to create varieties adapted to northern latitudes.
