The barley variety Mimer was bred in Sweden and in the 1960s was recommended for cultivation in Canada, particularly in the province of Ontario. The variety possessed resistance to rust and was characterized as high-yielding.

At the present time, the variety does not have wide distribution and is listed in archival databases. It should not be confused with the Russian spring barley variety Миар.
