The variety was obtained by crossing Trumpf x Cambrinus x Piccolo. During its period of active distribution, it established itself as an intensive-type variety with high adaptability to various growing conditions.
The primary purpose of the variety was for use in the brewing industry; it was also used for distillery needs in the production of whiskey. Currently, Prisma is considered a historical variety, having been displaced from mass production by more modern varieties, though it is still preserved within highly specialized projects.
