The variety is a six-row spring barley, known as genetic material for mapping resistance genes and studying quantitative traits. A morphological feature of the plant is strong anthocyanin coloration of the awn tips.

In scientific research, the variety is often used as a susceptible control when studying resistance to net blotch. The variety also serves as an object for comparative analysis of grain quality, including protein content indicators.
