The Torrent variety is a winter two-row barley. It was developed by breeder Rodney Hebgood as a result of crossing the varieties Fenella and Tri 685.

In archival documentation, the variety is characterized by the presence of resistance to Barley yellow mosaic virus. Currently, it is considered primarily as a historical variety or genetic material for breeding research.
