The rootstock is an interspecific hybrid intended for grafting tomato varieties to improve their overall condition and productivity. The plant possesses significant vigor, forms a powerful root system, and increases the leafiness of grafted crops. Use of the rootstock promotes fruit growth and can accelerate the onset of fruiting.

Vitalfort possesses genetic resistance to a number of soil-borne pathogens, including nematodes, Fusarium, and Verticillium. In international protocols, the rootstock is also noted as resistant to several races of Cladosporium. The product is intended for professional greenhouse vegetable production.
