The variety is an introduced natural form collected in Sikkim. The plant is a vigorously growing vine that clings using aerial roots, or a shrub in the absence of support. The maximum height reaches 12 meters.
The leaves are broadly oval, heart-shaped at the base, serrated, and glossy. In winter, the foliage turns purple or red-bronze in tone. The inflorescences are corymbose, consisting of cream-white fertile and sterile marginal flowers. Flowering occurs in late spring and summer.
The plant is frost-resistant down to –12°C, prefers partial shade and wind-protected areas with rich, moist soil. It is used for greening vertical surfaces or as a groundcover plant.
