The Avenir variety is a historical cultivar of Hydrangea macrophylla, first described in the Papendrecht-Vandervoet nursery catalog in 1930. The plant is characterized by abundant flowering and bright pink coloration of the inflorescences.

A number of historical sources noted strong and straight stems, as well as flower size exceeding the similar metrics of older varieties of that time. Currently, the variety is encountered for sale significantly less frequently than during its period of active distribution.
