The plant is characterized by straight, densely arranged stems that resemble a bundle of pencils or a brush. The stems are dark green, shiny, and hollow, with no typical leaves present. Stem height usually exceeds 50 cm; in container cultivation, the plant can reach 140 cm.
Pencil Grass is an ornamental species used in landscape design for decorating the edges of water bodies, as well as an indoor or garden plant in containers. The crop is moisture-loving, prefers waterlogged soils, and tolerates sunny or semi-shaded locations well. The plant is sensitive to drought.
